The Protector (Hakan: Muhafız) - The First Turkish Netflix Series!

Güncelleme tarihi: 4 Oca 2019

Netflix's first Turkish-made series was published. In this respect, this series has a different importance for me. The series can be criticized in many ways, but it should be noted that it is the first Turkish-made Netflix series.

A beautiful story was written by combining Turkish history and places with fantastic elements. In the first part, we see that Istanbul was brought to the forefront. The first episodes of the series were like a little publicity. Towards the end of the first episode, the story is revealed. There are immortals and guards. There is an ongoing war between the immortals and the guards for centuries. And there are those who are loyal. According to other turkish series, fluent and immersive, have a different taste. Another thing I like in this series is; showing past. The story goes back to the Ottoman period.

Çagatay Ulusoy are really good. I can't say the same thing for women actors. They are a uninspiring next to Çagatay. Mehmet Yilmaz Ak successfully playacts a small man trying to turn a big job. Although it is one of the remaining roles in the background, it is necessary to underline the player's success. I wish he had more roles. There is no need to say anything about Mehmet Kurtulus and Okan Yalabik. I like their acting.

The biggest problem of the series is dialogues. The dialogues were written so badly that even the best actor was unnatural. Continuously repeating the words of "immortal" and "guard". A little artificial. The overall view of the series is beautiful. The director of photography has made a successful job. CGI was very few and really bad. It seemed as if it were made with rush. Special effects should have been better. I found the series a little bright. It could have been better in a dark atmosphere. The musics used in the series was quite harmonious and beautiful. This is one of the most positive sides. The powers of the hero are not fully explained. What are the characteristics of this hero? This should be explained to the viewer in a very good way. Details of why the immortals are bad were not enough. These should be told to the audience. Yes, it was fluent, but there was a commotion in the series. There were some unnecessary scenes. It seems to me that they created a few extra stories to extend the series. This beautiful story could have been better with a good script. After winning the superhero powers, there must be an improvement in his character but there is no such thing here. Still same. If you are making a superhero series, it must have plenty of action scenes. And these action scenes must be incredible cool. Unfortunately, there are very few action scenes. The series was a bit like Iron Fist. The series is nice compared to the standard Turk series, but it's a little bad for the Netflix series.

It should be noted that this series is a few steps away from the originals of Netflix in different countries. The lesser the budget allocated to the series may have an impact on this. Because with a higher budget, it would be possible to enjoy a completely different narrative that the journey to different times.

As a result; I'm positive about this series. For the first time, we encounter such a fiction. Of course, it has shortcomings, but it's never bad. Even though there are disconnects, the series manages to get rid of them. It's not a legend or a very good series, but it's a pleasant and engaging series. Acting is fine. The Istanbul background used in filming is really as it should be. I'm just negative about the screenplay and CGI. I hope the series shows the success required and we have the opportunity to watch alternative productions like this.

The second season of The Protector's coming. The story was not completely finished. There is also a thick fog about who these Immortals are and how the Guard emerged. The series touched on little to these stories. It's like there's more to tell.
